Zakera
A pre-alpha, open-source framework for self-managed personal agents, being redesigned around continuity, inspectable work, and owner control.

In the prototype
Running code is one of the prototype's risky tool calls, so the run pauses until the owner decides.
Project thesis

Question
A pre-alpha, open-source framework for self-managed personal agents, being redesigned around continuity, inspectable work, and owner control.
Decision
Provider APIs fail in different ways, context windows are finite, tool execution needs explicit safety boundaries, and background work has to stay observable enough for a person to intervene.
About this project
Zakera began as a FastAPI and Next.js chat/orchestration prototype. I am redesigning it as an open-source framework that each owner runs for their own projects, rather than a hosted Zakera service.
The intended workflow starts with an outcome and a reviewable plan, loads only permitted project context, works in an isolated workspace, and asks for approval before consequential actions. Reviewable memory and durable background execution are planned capabilities, not completed product claims.
The earlier prototype introduced provider, tool, and memory concepts, and the figure above marks which parts of a run exist in that prototype today and which are planned for the redesign. The redesign keeps the useful run, step, event, and approval concepts while addressing duplicated surfaces, unsafe legacy tools, and unverified setup paths. The repository is pre-alpha and is not ready for production use.
What worked
- The prototype provides run, step, event, and approval concepts to characterize before rebuilding
- A self-managed framework gives the redesign a clear owner and explicit access boundaries
- Separating reads, drafts, and external actions makes approval requirements concrete
What didn't
- Reviewable long-term memory and durable background execution are still planned
- Legacy installation and deployment material is not evidence of a verified, runnable product
- The repository is pre-alpha; a complete, verified personal-project workflow remains to be built
